Delta is 66 miles southwest of Nephi on US 50 & 6 near the Sevier River.  The name decribes the flatland (delta) along the Sevier River before the river drains into the Sevier Lake Sink.  The town was first settled in 1906 and named Akin for a railroad employee.  The name was changed to Burtner after a railroad official, then Melville for an early settler involved in the Melville Irrigation Company.  The name Melville confused the Postal Service because it was too similar to Millville in Cache County, so the name Delta was finally accepted.
